How we review practice questions
Pocket JLPT offers human-reviewed vocabulary and grammar practice for JLPT N5–N1. We check that each question has one defensible answer, useful wrong choices, and an explanation that fits the sentence.
What do we check?
- Level and skill: the question should test the intended vocabulary or grammar distinction at the chosen level.
- Natural Japanese: the sentence should use appropriate grammar, word combinations, and register.
- One answer: the other choices should be wrong in the given context, rather than alternatives that also work.
- Useful alternatives: wrong choices should test understanding, without giving the answer away through obvious mistakes.
- Clear feedback: explanations and translations should match the exact question and avoid misleading rules.
Are all questions reviewed by a human?
Every question is reviewed by a native Japanese speaker before it goes into the app.
