Privacy Policy

Pocket JLPT is provided by Back After Sento. This policy covers the app and pocketjlpt.com. You do not need a Pocket JLPT account, and we do not show advertising or sell your personal data.

Your practice data

Your study plan, reminder preferences, practice history, confidence scores, and collections are saved on your device. You can export your progress from the app’s Settings. Daily reminders are optional local notifications, which you can disable in your device settings. Answer audio uses the Japanese system speech voice.

Optional iCloud sync

When you enable iCloud sync, practice history, collections, and study preferences are mirrored to your private CloudKit database using Apple’s services. Turning sync off stops future sync and keeps local data; it does not delete existing iCloud copies. You can manage the app’s iCloud storage through your Apple account’s device settings.

Usage analytics

The app sends first-party usage events to our Cloudflare service to help us understand and improve onboarding, subscriptions, and practice. These include:

• A random installation identifier, event and session identifiers, event times, and app version and build.
• Onboarding steps and choices, such as JLPT level, learning goals, and reminder decisions.
• Paywall views, selected plans, trial eligibility, and purchase-flow outcomes.
• Practice type, level and lesson identifier, completion, duration, and aggregate answer counts.

The installation identifier links events from the same installation. Our analytics database does not store your IP address, name, email address, payment details, individual selected answers, question text, drawings, or collections. The app does not use an advertising identifier or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Purchases

Apple processes payments and manages subscriptions. The app checks verified subscription entitlements to enable paid content. We do not receive your payment card details. Apple handles purchase information under its Privacy Policy.

Website and service providers

Cloudflare hosts this website and our analytics service. Network requests necessarily expose connection information, including IP addresses, to the service provider for delivery and security. This website does not set analytics or advertising cookies and does not include third-party marketing trackers. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy for its processing practices.

Apple provides App Store purchases and optional iCloud storage. These providers may process information outside your country. If you email support, we use your email address and the information you provide to respond and resolve your request.

Retention and your choices

Local practice data stays on your device until you remove it or delete the app; device backups and iCloud copies may remain separately. Unsent analytics events older than 29 days are discarded by the app. Received analytics are stored separately and currently have no automatic deletion schedule. We retain them to understand app usage and improve the product, and review deletion requests individually.

You may ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold by emailing support@backaftersento.com. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to object to or restrict processing, request a copy of your data, or complain to your local privacy authority. Because analytics use a random installation identifier, we may be unable to identify your events from your name or email alone. We will explain what information is needed to handle your request.

Children

Pocket JLPT is a general-audience study app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can investigate and address it.
